Edinburgh Hotels Make steady Progress
Once again hotels Edinburgh have taken the lead when it comes to filling rooms. Figures for October reveal promising rises in the number of people staying in Scotland’s capital city.
Although it is always good news when guests are filling rooms more than expected there was still a drop in revenue for most establishments as the 2009 winter discount war takes place. This is always expected at this time of year, the holiday season ends, the Edinburgh festival ends and everyone is starting to think, and get ready for the Christmas festivities.
Scotland held its head hi compared to other parts of the United Kingdom with only a 2.1 percent dip in occupancy levels and a 9.1 percent dip in revenue. This might seem a lot but at this time of year it is expected and measured against predictions made from economists.
Experts who compiled the data say that hotels are lowering rates and losing out in more revenue in order to fill rooms.
This has been happening for many months now and has been put down to a reaction when demand drops for rooms.
October months are usually quite as this is end of the High Holiday season but Edinburgh managed pass impressive results with rooms occupancy in Edinburgh hotels averaging at 82.5%.
Some hotels introduced package deals to lure customers through their doors, Some gave out free Champaign and shopping vouchers instead of lowering their room rates while stating that hotels who do lower their rates cut back on services ultimate providing a second tier service to what customers should be experiencing.
Reports say that hotels in Edinburgh were losing up to 20% worth of conference bookings compared to 2008, this is obviously linked to the recession but in the last 6 months establishments are seeing a sharp rise in bookings for 2010 and are gaining back the amount of bookings they that were lost at during the worst of the recession.
All in All, Edinburgh faring to be one of the most popular places for people to come and have a short break whether it be for business or pleasure.
