The Norfolk Broads

The Norfolk Broads [or "the Broads" as they are known locally] are one of the most beautiful parts of rural England. People often confuse the large area as being the broads, possibly because it is so expansive, but in fact the broads are actually channels of water [many artificial] which connect the rivers in the district, making the area fully navigable.

Nowadays the broads are no longer in full use for the original commercial purposes, but are open [most of the year] for tourists and boat lovers alike. But it is not a free for all, in some places you have to book ahead to be sure to hire a boat, and although there are no locks in the system, some of the bridge only allow for smaller boats to pass under them.

A good idea would be to book your place in a hotel in Norwich, or Great Yarmouth, if you ask the staff kindly they will be able to point you in right direction of a reputable boat hire company.
